# Unfile a segment

`DELETE /api/v1/ackdb/observe/segment-folders/items/{segmentId}`

## Request

- Base URL: `http://localhost:3009`
- URL: `http://localhost:3009/api/v1/ackdb/observe/segment-folders/items/{segmentId}`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Removes one segment from whatever folder the caller filed it in, returning it to Unfiled. Idempotent — unfiling an already-unfiled segment is the state the caller asked for, so it returns 200 with `unfiled:false` rather than 404. The segment itself is untouched.

- `segmentId` string, required

## Response `200`

The segment is not in any folder.

    - `unfiled` boolean, required: True when a placement was actually removed; false when it was already unfiled.

## Other responses

- `400`: No user identity on the request (service / static-API-key call).
