# List distinct values for a field

`GET /api/v1/ackdb/observe/companies/fields/{key}/values`

## Request

Returns distinct values for a pickable field, most-common first, capped at the cardinality limit: a string/string_array trait, a whitelisted system attribute (e.g. status), or a string/string_array promoted event-metadata (emf__) column. Only fields whose descriptor carries distinctValuesUrl are pickable; everything else is rejected. A twin endpoint exists per grain (/observe/contacts/fields/{key}/values). Pass ?search= to filter the values by a case-insensitive substring - required for high-cardinality fields whose match isn't in the top results (the picker's typeahead uses this).

## Other responses

- `400`: Field value type does not support distinct-value listing.
