# Search the ISO 9362 BIC (SWIFT code) directory by name, address and country, or look a code up (public, 25 per page).

Every BIC8 and branch code SWIFTRef publishes, with the institution's legal name, addresses and country. `meta` carries `source`, `notice` (SWIFT's database-rights notice, to be reproduced with any copy of the data), `valid_as_of` (the directory's publication date), `last_updated` (its newest record update) and `entries`.

    - `branch` string, required: Three-character branch code; XXX is the head office.

    - `is_active_swift` boolean, required: Whether the BIC is active on the SWIFT network, read from the code's location character as SWIFT defines it: an 8th character of 1 marks a passive, unconnected BIC and 0 a test BIC.

    - `name` string, required: The institution's full legal name.
    - `country` string, required: ISO 3166-1 alpha-2, from the code itself.
