# Search fighters

`POST /v1/search_fighters`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://mcp.fighterapi.com`
- URL: `https://mcp.fighterapi.com/v1/search_fighters`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `x-api-key`
  - HTTP bearer

Use to find a fighter's id by name or nickname (accents optional). Returns weight class, country, pro record, number of fights in the promotion (bouts; ufc_bouts for the UFC only) and last fight date. Costs 1 credit.

## Request body

- object
  - `query` string, required: Name or nickname, e.g. Topuria or 'El Matador'.
  - `weight_class` string: e.g. Lightweight, Women's Strawweight.
  - `limit` integer: Max results (default 20).
  - `league` 'mma' | 'pfl' | 'bellator': League. Defaults to mma. One of: mma, pfl, bellator.

## Response `200`

The result, wrapped in data.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid arguments.
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `402`: Not enough credits.
- `429`: Rate limited.
