# Change Member Role

`PATCH /v1/orgs/members/{user_id}`

Change a member's role (ADMIN, MEMBER, or VIEWER).

- `user_id` string, uuid, required

- `X-Organization-Id` string, uuid, nullable

## Request body

- MemberRoleUpdate: Request body for changing a member's role (OWNER rejected).
  - `role` 'OWNER' | 'ADMIN' | 'MEMBER' | 'VIEWER', required: Membership role of a user within an organization. Distinct from the dormant global ``UserRole`` (account-level template seam). OWNER ⊇ ADMIN plus exclusive actions (delete org, transfer ownership); those exclusive endpoints are enforced in A2. MEMBER = operational CRUD; VIEWER = read-only. Member name == value (UPPER) to match the project enum convention and the persisted DB labels.
