# Fetch metadata information on the data asset and its associated Datasets.

`GET /data-assets/`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://data.ferc.gov` (the document declares no server; this is the origin it was published from)
- URL: `https://data.ferc.gov/data-assets/`
- Auth: API key in query parameter `api_key`
- TypeScript: <https://skmtc.dev/ferc/apis/api-endpoints/docs/data-assets/get.ts> (a function with typed inputs; its response is checked against the schema)

This endpoint displays the metadata, including descriptions and titles, which will help you determine which datasets are available. After identifying the dataset you want to explore further, record it’s ID number and enter it for the other endpoints to retrieve data.

- `401`: Unauthorized - Request unsuccessful due to lack of validation
- `405`: Method Not Allowed - Only GET requests are allowed
- `429`: Too Many Requests - Blocked due to multiple requests in a short period
- `500`: Internal Server Error - Database error or server failure
