# Create Source Description

`POST /sources/descriptions`

Create a source description.

The FamilySearch implementation of the Source Description resource does not support all properties of a source description as defined by GEDCOM X. For more information, see the [Source Description Resource](Source_Description_resource).

### User-Uploaded Sources

To create a user-uploaded source, create a source description that describes a [Memories: Read Memory](ref:read memory).

## Request body

- CreateSourceDescription
  - `sourceDescriptions` object[], required: Array containing the source description to create. Only one source description may be created per request. See <a href="https://developers.familysearch.org/main/docs/json-schema#sourcedescription" target="_blank">SourceDescription Schema (JSON)</a>
    - `about` string, required: The URI to the resource being described
    - `citations` object[]: Array of citations for the source
      - `value` string: The citation text
    - `titles` object[]: Array of titles for the source
      - `value` string: The title text
    - `notes` object[]: Array of notes about the source
      - `text` string: The note text
    - `attribution` object
      - `changeMessage` string: A message describing the reason for the change

## Response `201`

The creation of the source description was successful. Expect a location header specifying the link to the created source description.

## Other responses

- `400`: If the request was unable to be understood by the application.
