# Create an inventory type

`POST /types/inventory`

Creates a new inventory type. Unknown fields in the body are rejected.

## Request body

- CreateInventoryType: Request to create an inventory type. Unknown fields are rejected (`deny_unknown_fields`). Timestamps are server-generated.
  - `name` string, required: Name of the inventory type.
  - `description` string, nullable: Optional description.
  - `category_id` string, uuid, nullable: Optional reference to the inventory category.
  - `is_active` boolean: Whether the type is active. Defaults to `true` when omitted.

## Response `201`

Inventory type created.

- InventoryType: An inventory type (a category-of-thing used when describing inventory). Field names match the JSON payload exactly (snake_case, no renaming).
  - `id` string, uuid, required: Unique inventory type identifier (server-generated).
  - `name` string, required: Name of the inventory type.
  - `description` string, nullable: Optional description.
  - `category_id` string, uuid, nullable: Optional reference to the inventory category this type belongs to.
  - `is_active` boolean, required: Whether the inventory type is active.
  - `created_at` string, date-time, required: Creation timestamp (ISO 8601).
  - `updated_at` string, date-time, required: Last update timestamp (ISO 8601).

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad request
- `401`: Unauthorized
- `403`: Forbidden
- `422`: Unprocessable Entity
- `500`: Internal Server Error
