# Create a distribution reference

`POST /charges/distribution-references`

Create a new charge distribution reference

## Request body

- CreateChargeDistributionReference: Create a new distribution reference. **Validation:** `reference_value` must be >= 0.
  - `distribution_key_id` string, uuid, required
  - `estate_id` string, uuid, required
  - `reference_date` string, date-time, required
  - `reference_value` number, required
  - `supporting_document` object, nullable
  - `notes` string, nullable

## Response `201`

Distribution reference created successfully

- ChargeDistributionReference: A historical reference value for a distribution key, used to compute charge allocations. References are tied to an estate and a distribution key.
  - `id` string, uuid, required
  - `distribution_key_id` string, uuid, required: Distribution key this reference belongs to
  - `estate_id` string, uuid, required: Estate this reference applies to
  - `reference_date` string, date-time, required: Date of the reference measurement
  - `reference_value` number, required: Reference value (e.g., surface area, number of occupants)
  - `supporting_document` object, nullable: Reference to supporting document (JSON)
  - `notes` string, nullable: Additional notes
  - `created_at` string, date-time, required
  - `updated_at` string, date-time, required

## Other responses
