# Retrieve an absence balance

`GET /companies/{company}/absence-balances/{absence_balance}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.factuarea.com/v1`
- URL: `https://api.factuarea.com/v1/companies/{company}/absence-balances/{absence_balance}`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`

Retrieve a single absence balance by its `id` (UUID v7), including its accrued, carried-over, consumed and available days for the employee, absence type and year. A balance belonging to another company returns 404 `absence_balance_not_found` (anti-enumeration).

## Path parameters

- `company` string, uuid, required
- `absence_balance` string, uuid, required

## Headers

- `Factuarea-Version` string, date

## Response `200`

- object
  - `data` AbsenceBalance, required: An absence balance for the Control Horario (time tracking) module: the accrued, carried-over, consumed and available days of one employee for one absence type in a given year. Day amounts are decimal strings. `accrued_days`, `carried_over_days` and `consumed_days` are the exact ledger figures; `available_days` is the usable balance (accrued + non-expired carried-over − consumed) **rounded up to a whole day**, because absences are requested in whole working days. As a result `available_days` can exceed the exact arithmetic by up to one day — that fraction is granted by the company — so do not expect it to reconcile to the cent with the other three fields.
    - `id` string, uuid, required: Opaque identifier of the balance, a UUID v7.
    - `object` 'absence_balance', required: Always `absence_balance`.
    - `employee_id` string, uuid, required: UUID v7 of the employee the balance belongs to.
    - `absence_type_id` string, uuid, required: UUID v7 of the absence type the balance tracks.
    - `absence_policy_id` string, uuid, required: UUID v7 of the absence policy the balance accrues under.
    - `year` integer, required: Accrual year the balance belongs to (e.g. `2026`).
    - `accrued_days` string, required: Days accrued so far this year, as an exact decimal string.
    - `carried_over_days` string, required: Days carried over from the previous year (capped by the policy), as an exact decimal string.
    - `carryover_expires_on` string, date, nullable, required: Date on which the carried-over days expire (`YYYY-MM-DD`), or `null` when they do not expire or there is no carryover.
    - `consumed_days` string, required: Days already consumed against this balance, as an exact decimal string.
    - `available_days` string, required: Usable balance (accrued + non-expired carried-over − consumed), rounded up to a whole day. Always an integer value, serialised as a decimal string.
    - `measurement_unit` 'days' | 'hours', required: Unit in which the balance is measured: `days` or `hours`.
    - `updated_at` string, date-time, nullable, required: Last-update timestamp (ISO 8601).

## Other responses

- `400`: `parameter_unknown` with `subcode` `retired_active_profile_header`: the retired `X-Active-Profile` header was sent; the company goes in the path. `parameter_invalid_format` on `Factuarea-Version`: the header is not a `YYYY-MM-DD` date. `unsupported_api_version`: the `Factuarea-Version` date is not a supported version.
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `403`: The request is authenticated but not allowed: the API key lacks the required scope (`insufficient_scope`), the plan does not include the public API or this feature (`addon_not_active`, `feature_not_available_in_plan`), or the module is not available with a test key (`module_not_available_in_sandbox`).
- `404`: The requested resource does not exist or belongs to another company.
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded. Retry after the duration in `Retry-After`.
- `500`: Unexpected server error.
