# Update a Pre-Chargeback Rule

`PATCH /payments/pre-chargeback-alerts/merchants/{merchant_id}/rules/{rule_id}`

Updates a Verifi RDR refund rule. A rule's `type` cannot be changed — only its
`parameters`. `parameters` is replaced, not merged, so send the complete object
(`operator`, `currencyCode`, `amountInCents`). Omitting `parameters` entirely is a
no-op — the rule is returned unchanged.

    - `operator` 'GREATER_THAN' | 'GREATER_THAN_OR_EQUAL' | 'LESS_THAN' | 'LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL' | 'EQUAL' | 'NOT_EQUAL', required
    - `currencyCode` 'USD', required
    - `amountInCents` integer, required

## Response `200`

Returns the updated Pre-Chargeback Rule object.

- PreChargebackRule: A Verifi RDR refund rule that controls which alerts Evervault automatically refunds for a merchant.
  - `id` string, required: A unique identifier for the rule.
  - `type` 'AMOUNT', required: The rule type. Currently only `AMOUNT` is supported.
  - `outcome` 'REFUND', required: The action taken when the rule matches. Currently always `REFUND`.
  - `parameters` object, required: The rule parameters. Replaced entirely on update (not merged).
    - `operator` 'GREATER_THAN' | 'GREATER_THAN_OR_EQUAL' | 'LESS_THAN' | 'LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL' | 'EQUAL' | 'NOT_EQUAL', required: The comparison operator applied to the disputed amount.
    - `currencyCode` 'USD', required: The currency used for rule evaluation. Only `USD` is supported. Convert non-USD thresholds to USD yourself before creating the rule.
    - `amountInCents` integer, required: The threshold amount in cents against which the disputed amount is compared.
  - `createdAt` string, date-time, required: When the rule was created, as an ISO 8601 timestamp in UTC.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid, empty, or partial rule parameters.
- `404`: Rule not found, or does not belong to the merchant.
