# Suppress an address

`POST /suppressions`

## Request

- Auth: HTTP bearer

Adding an address that is already suppressed returns the existing entry unchanged — a manual add never rewrites a real bounce or complaint. Refused for test-mode keys.

## Request body

- CreateSuppressionRequest
  - `email` string, email, required
  - `reason` 'bounce' | 'complaint' | 'manual': An add never overwrites the reason an address is already suppressed for.

## Response `200`

Already suppressed; the entry in force is returned.

  - `created_at` string, date-time, required

## Other responses

- `201`: Suppressed.
- `400`: The request body or query failed validation (`VALIDATION_ERROR`).
- `401`: Missing, malformed, or revoked API key (`UNAUTHORIZED`).
- `403`: The suppression list is full for this plan, or the key is test-mode (`PLAN_LIMIT_EXCEEDED`, `FORBIDDEN`).
- `409`: The address was modified concurrently; retry (`CONFLICT`).
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded (`RATE_LIMITED`).
- `500`: Unexpected server error (`INTERNAL_ERROR`). Carries `request_id`.
