# Create a budget

`POST /api/v2/budgets`

## Request

Validates like the wizard's Next, then saves the inputs as a draft owned by the caller and joins or creates
the trip (`trip.needs_choice` with `candidates` when the free trip limit leaves a choice). 422
`validation_failed` carries the wizard's messages; 403 `quota_exceeded` when the caller is at the limit.

## Other responses

- `401`: unauthenticated: No valid bearer token was sent.
- `403`: quota_exceeded: A free monthly tool allowance is spent; the body carries `limit`, `used` and `remaining`.
- `422`: validation_failed: The request body failed validation; field messages are in `errors`.
- `429`: rate_limited: A throttle or a per-account allowance refused the request; `retry_after` or `remaining` may be present.
- `500`: server_error: Unhandled failure; quote `request_id` to support.
