# Create Packing List

`POST /api/v1/packing-lists`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://www.endlesstravelplans.com`

- Auth: HTTP bearer

Create a new smart packing list. With trip_external_id the trip's existing
list is returned (200, reused) unless new is true.

## Request body

- object
  - `trip_external_id` string, nullable: Link to a trip.
  - `input_destination` string, required: The destination.
  - `departure_date` string, required
  - `return_date` string, required: On or after departure_date (a same-day trip is fine).
  - `num_adults` integer, required
  - `num_children` integer, required
  - `children_ages` integer[]: Must be at least 0. Must not be greater than 17.
  - `num_babies` integer, nullable
  - `trip_type` string, nullable
  - `trip_mode` 'single_city' | 'multi_city', nullable
  - `stops` object, nullable
  - `packing_strategy_id` integer, nullable: The <code>id</code> of an existing record in the packing_strategies table.
  - `activity_ids` integer[]: Activity IDs to include.
  - `special_need_ids` integer[]: Special need IDs.
  - `new` boolean: Create a fresh draft even when the trip already has one.

## Other responses

- `201`
- `401`: unauthenticated: No valid bearer token was sent.
- `422`: validation_failed: The request body failed validation; field messages are in `errors`.

- `500`: server_error: Unhandled failure; quote `request_id` to support.
