Convert Word document to PDF

Args:
    file: Word document (.doc) to convert
    output_filename: Optional custom output filename. If not provided, uses input filename with .pdf extension.
    direct_download: If True (default), return file directly. Set to False for JSON metadata.
    pdf_options: Optional JSON string. Supports 'grayscale' only — this
        format is rendered by LibreOffice, whose page layout comes from the
        source document — so an explicitly-set geometry option (page_size,
        page_width/height, orientation, margins, scale, header, footer) is
        rejected with a 400.
