# Verify an email address

`POST /tools/verify/email`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.emelia.io`
- URL: `https://api.emelia.io/tools/verify/email`
- Auth: API key in header `Authorization`

Starts the verification of one email address and returns a `jobId`. Cost: 0.25 credit, never refunded (even when the provider fails). Poll `GET /tools/verify/email/{jobId}` every few seconds; the job is marked `error` after about 60 seconds without a verdict.

Success.

  - `jobId` string: MongoDB ObjectId: 24 hexadecimal characters.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request.
- `401`: Missing, malformed, unknown or disabled API key. The key must be exactly 48 characters, otherwise it is treated as a session token and rejected the same way.
