# Stop a VM

`POST /agent/compute/vms/{id}/stop`

## Request

Graceful shutdown (ACPI). The VM keeps its disk and IP and continues to be billed; delete it to stop charges. Returns the VM with its new status; 409 RESOURCE_BUSY if another operation is in progress. Idempotent: calling it on a VM already in the target state returns unchanged: true.

## Other responses

- `400`: Validation error — the response body explains what to fix.
- `401`: Missing or invalid agent access code. The body includes self-signup pointers.
- `429`: Rate limited. Honour Retry-After and the RateLimit-* headers before retrying.
