# Search companies

`GET /api/v1/companies/search`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://earningsfeed.com`
- URL: `https://earningsfeed.com/api/v1/companies/search`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Search for companies by name, ticker, or apply filters.

## Search Behavior

The `q` parameter searches across:
- **Company names**: Partial match, case-insensitive
- **Ticker symbols**: Partial match, case-insensitive

Results are sorted alphabetically by company name.

## Filters

All filters can be combined:

| Filter | Description | Example |
|--------|-------------|---------|
| `ticker` | Exact ticker match | `AAPL` |
| `sicCode` | Industry code | `7372` (software) |
| `category` | SEC filer category | `Large Accelerated Filer` |
| `entityType` | Entity type | `Corporation` |
| `state` | State of incorporation | `CA`, `DE`, `NY` |
| `hasInsiderTransactions` | Has insider filings | `true` or `false` |

## Pagination

Results are paginated with cursor-based pagination:
- Default limit: 25 items per page
- Maximum limit: 100 items per page
- Use `nextCursor` from response to fetch next page

## Query parameters

- `limit` integer: Number of items to return (1-100)
- `cursor` string: Cursor for pagination (opaque string from previous response)
- `q` string: Search query matching company name or ticker symbol. Supports: - Exact ticker match: `AAPL` - Company name substring: `Apple` - Partial matches: `Micro` matches Microsoft, Micron, etc. Results are ranked by relevance with exact ticker matches first.
- `ticker` string: Filter by exact ticker symbol
- `sicCode` integer, nullable: Filter by SIC code
- `category` string: Filter by SEC category (Large Accelerated Filer, etc.)
- `entityType` string: Filter by entity type
- `state` string: Filter by state of incorporation (2-letter code)
- `hasInsiderTransactions` 'true' | 'false': Filter to companies with or without insider transaction history

    - `entityType` string, nullable, required: Type of SEC-registered entity: - **Corporation** = Public company - **LLC** = Limited liability company - **LP** = Limited partnership - **Trust** = Trust or fund - **null** = Type not specified
    - `category` string, nullable, required: SEC category classification based on market cap and reporting status: - **Large Accelerated Filer** = Market cap ≥ $700M - **Accelerated Filer** = Market cap $75M-$700M - **Non-Accelerated Filer** = Market cap < $75M - **Smaller Reporting Company** = Revenue < $100M or float < $250M - **null** = Not classified or not applicable
    - `sicCode` integer, nullable, required: Primary SIC code
    - `sicDescription` string, nullable, required: Primary SIC code description
    - `logoUrl` string, nullable, required: URL to company logo
  - `nextCursor` string, nullable, required: Cursor for next page, null if no more pages
  - `hasMore` boolean, required: Whether more items exist beyond this page

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid query parameters
- `401`: Unauthorized - API key required
- `429`: Minute rate limit or tier monthly quota exceeded. Retry-After points to the relevant minute or monthly reset.
- `500`: Internal server error
