# Get company profile

`GET /api/v1/companies/{cik}`

Retrieve detailed information about a company by its SEC CIK (Central Index Key).

## What is a CIK?

The CIK is the SEC's unique identifier for entities that file with them. It's a 10-digit number (though leading zeros are often omitted). Examples:
- **Apple Inc.**: 320193
- **Microsoft Corporation**: 789019
- **Berkshire Hathaway**: 1067983

## Response Fields

### Basic Information
- **name**: Legal name as registered with the SEC
- **entityType**: Corporation, LLC, LP, Trust, etc.
- **category**: SEC filer category (Large Accelerated Filer, etc.)
- **description**: AI-generated business summary

### Stock Information
- **tickers**: All stock tickers, with exchange and primary flag
- **primaryTicker**: Convenience field with the main ticker symbol

### Industry Classification
- **sicCodes**: Standard Industrial Classification codes with descriptions

### Corporate Details
- **ein**: Employer Identification Number (tax ID)
- **fiscalYearEnd**: Month and day of fiscal year end (MMDD format)
- **stateOfIncorporation**: State/country of incorporation

### Contact Information
- **phone**: Primary phone number
- **website**: Company website
- **investorWebsite**: Investor relations page
- **addresses**: Business and mailing addresses

### Filing Activity
- **hasInsiderTransactions**: Whether Form 3/4/5 filings exist for this company
- **isInsider**: Whether this entity appears as a reporting owner in insider filings

## Finding a CIK

If you don't know a company's CIK, use the `/api/v1/companies/search` endpoint to search by name or ticker.

  - `category` string, nullable, required: SEC category classification based on market cap and reporting status: - **Large Accelerated Filer** = Market cap ≥ $700M - **Accelerated Filer** = Market cap $75M-$700M - **Non-Accelerated Filer** = Market cap < $75M - **Smaller Reporting Company** = Revenue < $100M or float < $250M - **null** = Not classified or not applicable
  - `description` string, nullable, required: Brief description of the company's business
  - `tickers` Ticker[], required: Stock tickers associated with this company
    - `symbol` string, required: Stock ticker symbol
    - `exchange` string, required: Exchange where the ticker is listed
    - `isPrimary` boolean, required: Whether this is the company's primary ticker
  - `primaryTicker` string, nullable, required: Primary stock ticker symbol (convenience field)
  - `sicCodes` SicCode[], required: Standard Industrial Classification codes for this company
    - `code` integer, required: 4-digit SIC code (0-9999)
    - `description` string, required: Industry description

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid CIK format
- `401`: Unauthorized - API key required
- `404`: Company not found
- `429`: Minute rate limit or tier monthly quota exceeded. Retry-After points to the relevant minute or monthly reset.
- `500`: Internal server error
