# Remove a member from the organization.

`DELETE /v1/orgs/{orgId}/members/{userId}`

## Request

- Base URL: `http://localhost:8080`
- URL: `http://localhost:8080/v1/orgs/{orgId}/members/{userId}`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in cookie `dvt_session`
  - HTTP bearer

Removes the member. The WorkOS organization membership is deleted first (so the
user is not re-provisioned by JIT on next login), then the local membership.
Guards: you cannot remove yourself; the last owner cannot be removed (409).

## Response `204`

Member removed.

## Other responses

- `400`: Malformed request.
- `401`: Missing, invalid, or expired session.
- `403`: The caller's role does not permit this action.
- `404`: Resource does not exist.
- `409`: The member is the org's only owner.
- `502`: The identity provider could not be reached; no change was made.
