# Update domain settings

`PUT /api/domains/{domain}/settings`

## Request

Update settings for a domain you own. Supports `auto_renew`, `whois_privacy`, and `security_lock`. At least one field must be provided.

## Path parameters

- `domain` string, required

## Request body

- object
  - `auto_renew` boolean: Whether to enable auto-renew for this domain
  - `whois_privacy` boolean: Whether to enable WHOIS privacy protection
  - `security_lock` boolean: Whether to lock the domain against transfers

## Response `200`

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request parameters
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key
- `404`: Domain not found
- `409`: CAPABILITY_UNAVAILABLE: this domain's registrar has no API for the requested change - for example, Porkbun has no API to toggle `security_lock`, and can only confirm `whois_privacy` as it was set at registration, never change it afterward
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded - wait and retry
