# Get editable document content

`GET /api/v1/knowledge-base/documents/{document_uuid}/content`

Return the raw text of a .txt or .md document for editing.

Access Control:
* Users can only read documents from their organization.

- DocumentContentResponseSchema: Raw text of an editable (text or Markdown) document.

  - `filename` string, required
  - `retrieval_mode` string, required
  - `content` string, required: The stored file's text, as uploaded
  - `file_hash` string, required: Version token; send it back as expected_file_hash when saving
