# Withdraw a DNS-01 challenge value

`DELETE /v1/hostnames/{id}/acme-challenge`

## Request

Removes one published challenge value. Withdrawing a value that is already gone is not an error: a client's cleanup runs whether or not its publish completed, so it must be callable unconditionally. Works on a hostname in any status.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid JSON, or txt is not a 43-character challenge value
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key
- `403`: Key lacks dns01:write, or is narrowed to another hostname
- `404`: Hostname not found
- `429`: More than 20 challenge updates in a minute on this hostname
- `500`: Unexpected server error.
