# Publish a DNS-01 challenge (acme-dns wire protocol)

`POST /acme/update`

## Request

Authenticated by X-Api-User/X-Api-Key headers from the registration blob. subdomain must equal the credential's username; txt is the 43-character challenge value. The two newest values per name are served. Credentials for released hostnames are rejected.

## Other responses

- `400`: Malformed challenge value
- `401`: Invalid acme-dns credentials
- `403`: Subdomain does not belong to this credential
- `429`: More than 20 challenge updates in a minute on this credential.
- `500`: Unexpected server error.
