# Move a collection

`POST /collections.move`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://app.getoutline.com/api`

  - HTTP bearer

    - Authorization code: `https://app.getoutline.com/oauth/authorize`
    - Token URL: `https://app.getoutline.com/oauth/token` scopes: `read`, `write`

Move a collection to a new position in the sidebar. Collections are ordered using a fractional index; provide the new index to reposition the collection relative to its siblings.

## Request body

- object
  - `id` string, uuid, required: Unique identifier for the collection.
  - `index` string, required: The fractional index to move the collection to, used for ordering in the sidebar.

## Response `200`

OK

  - `data` object
    - `index` string: The fractional index the collection was moved to.

## Other responses

- `400`: The request failed one or more validations.
- `401`: The API key is missing or otherwise invalid.
- `403`: The current API key is not authorized to perform this action.
- `404`: The specified resource was not found.
- `429`: The request was rate limited.
