# Create a folder

`POST /folders`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.deepnote.com/v2`
- URL: `https://api.deepnote.com/v2/folders`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Create a workspace folder, optionally inside another folder. Folder names are not unique, so check `GET /folders` first to avoid creating a duplicate. The new folder is listed by `GET /folders` right away, and its `id` is accepted as `folderId` by `POST /projects` and `PATCH /projects/{projectId}`.

## Request body

- CreateFolderBody
  - `name` string, required: Folder name.
  - `parentFolderId` string, uuid: Folder to create the new folder in. Omit to create it at the workspace root. Resolve a folder name to its ID via `GET /folders`.

    - `id` string, uuid, required
    - `name` string, required
    - `parentFolderId` string, uuid, nullable, required: Parent folder ID, or null when the folder is at the workspace root.

## Other responses

- `400`: Validation error
- `401`: Unauthorized
- `403`: Insufficient permissions
- `404`: Parent folder not found
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded
