# Create an account (password-first sign-up)

`POST /api/v1/auth/register`

Register a free-tier account.  Password is required.  After sign-up, sign in with email + password and view / rotate your API key from the Developer panel.  No payment required for the free tier.

## Request body

  - `email` string, required: Contact email address
  - `name` string, required: Person or organization name
  - `password` string, required: Account password, 8+ characters. Required as of May 2026 -- API keys are generated and accessed via the Developer panel after sign-in.
  - `website_url` string: Leave blank
