# Update a phone number

`PATCH /phone-numbers/{id}`

## Request

Update what the AI does on inbound calls (inbound_objective), pause/resume the number (status), or set where calls reach a person, without releasing the number. `forward_to` is a phone number in the same country as this one (E.164). With `call_routing: agent` (default) the AI answers and transfers callers who ask for a person to `forward_to`; with `call_routing: forward` every call rings `forward_to` directly, and the caller can leave a voicemail if it does not connect. Forwarded minutes use credits.
