# Get a free trial API key (shown once)

`POST /v1/trial`

## Request

Issues one API key with 1,000 one-time credits. No auth. One per normalized email (case, +tags and Gmail dots ignored) every 30 days; soft caps per IP and per network for shared egress; 5 attempts per hour per IP; global daily cap. Disposable/reserved email domains and domains without MX records are refused. Trial keys have lower limits (20 req/min, 2 concurrent, 5 monitors, 1 active key) and can never go below zero (402 when a call needs more credits than are left). Buying a pack or plan on the account ends the trial. Terms: send `acceptTerms: true` to accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy at issuance; otherwise the key is issued with `termsRequired: true` and every call answers 403 `terms_required` until you call `POST /v1/terms/accept` with the key. The trial flow never sends email.

  - `termsVersion` string: Optional; must equal the current Terms version if sent.

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid email, disposable domain (reason disposable_email) or domain without mail (reason domain_has_no_mail)
- `409`: trial_not_available: a trial was already issued for this email, IP or network in the last 30 days (error.reason = email | ip | network)
- `429`: Rate limited
- `503`: Trials disabled
