# Create a team member role

`POST /api/v1/team-roles`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.getcortexapp.com`

- Auth: HTTP bearer

Create a new team member role definition that can then be assigned to members of a team (e.g. "Security Champion", "Tech Lead"). Requires the Edit Settings permission.

## Request body

- CreateTeamRoleRequest
  - `description` string: Optional description of the team member role
  - `name` string, required: Display name of the team member role
  - `notificationsEnabled` boolean: Whether notifications are enabled by default for members assigned this role. Defaults to true.
  - `tag` string, required: Unique tag identifying the team member role. May only contain letters, digits, and hyphens.

## Response `200`

Successfully created the team member role

- TeamRoleResponse: Team member roles for the current page
  - `description` string: Optional description of the team member role
  - `name` string, required: Display name of the team member role
  - `notificationsEnabled` boolean, required: Whether notifications are enabled by default for members assigned this role
  - `tag` string, required: Unique tag identifying the team member role

## Other responses

- `400`: The tag is invalid, or a role with the same tag already exists
- `403`: Caller does not have the Edit Settings permission
- `429`: The client has exceeded the rate limit by performing too many requests in a short period. Retry the request after a delay.
