# Delete a custom metric definition

`DELETE /api/v1/eng-intel/custom-metrics/{customMetricKey}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.getcortexapp.com`
- URL: `https://api.getcortexapp.com/api/v1/eng-intel/custom-metrics/{customMetricKey}`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Removes the metric from Eng Intelligence. Its recorded data points stay out of reach, and creating the key again starts with no data. Only `PUBLIC_API` metrics can be deleted through the API. API key must have the `Configure Eng Intelligence custom metrics` permission.

- `customMetricKey` string, required

## Response `204`

The custom metric was deleted

## Other responses

- `400`: The metric is a CQL metric
- `404`: No custom metric has this key
- `429`: The client has exceeded the rate limit by performing too many requests in a short period. Retry the request after a delay.
