# Get Contact

`GET /v2/contacts`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://pub-api.conversion.ai/api`
- URL: `https://pub-api.conversion.ai/api/v2/contacts`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`
  - API key in query parameter `api_key`

Fetch a single contact by `email` or `cnvContactId`. Provide exactly one identifier; `cnvContactId` takes precedence when both are provided.

When looking up by `email`, the most recently updated contact with that email address is returned.

> **Request access.** This endpoint is not enabled by default, contact the Conversion team to request access. Calls from accounts without it return `403 export_not_enabled`.

## Response `200`

Contact retrieved successfully.

    - `contact` Contact, required
      - `cnvContactId` string, uuid, required: The Conversion contact ID.
      - `email` string, email, nullable: The contact's email address, or `null` when not set.
      - `userId` string, nullable: An external user identifier for the contact, or `null` when not set.
      - `subscriptionStatus` 'SUBSCRIBED' | 'UNSUBSCRIBED' | 'NO_STATUS' | 'BOUNCED' | 'GLOBAL_BOUNCED' | 'COMPLAINED' | 'GRAYMAILED': The contact's email subscription status. Reads can return system-managed statuses that the API cannot set.
      - `fields` ContactFields, required: A map of contact field keys to values. Keys must match existing field definitions in your Conversion account.
      - `createdAt` string, date-time, required: When the contact was created.
      - `updatedAt` string, date-time, required: When the contact was last updated.

## Other responses

- `400`: The request was malformed.
- `401`: Authentication failed.
- `403`: This endpoint is not enabled for this account.
- `404`: The contact was not found.
- `500`: An unexpected server error occurred.
