# Pause publishing for a workspace

`POST /api/v1/workspaces/{workspace_id}/posting/pause`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.contentstudio.io`
- URL: `https://api.contentstudio.io/api/v1/workspaces/{workspace_id}/posting/pause`
- Auth: API key in header `X-API-Key`

Holds every pending post in the workspace and stops publishing, exactly as the Pause Posting action in the web app does.
     *
     * **What is held:** posts that are `scheduled`, posts in `review` whose slot is still in the future, and `draft` posts awaiting approval. Each keeps its original status in `old_status` and becomes a `draft` flagged `on_hold`.
     *
     * **Side effect:** active RSS and Evergreen automations in the workspace are also locked. Resuming does **not** unlock them — see the resume endpoint.
     *
     * **Not held:** posts already published, failed, or rejected, and posts whose `review` slot has passed.
     *
     * The pause is visible in the web app, the mobile apps and the Chrome extension immediately: it writes the same `workspace.on_hold` flag they all read.
     *
     * Calling this on an already-paused workspace is safe — it holds anything scheduled since the last pause and returns the current count.

    - `paused_posts_count` integer: Scheduled posts this pause is holding.
    - `paused_at` string, date-time, nullable
    - `automations_locked` integer: RSS and Evergreen automations that were active and have now been locked.

## Other responses

- `401`: Unauthorized - Invalid or missing API key
- `403`: Forbidden - Requires the save_workspace permission. Workspace access refusals return `error_code` `WORKSPACE_ACCESS_DENIED`, `WORKSPACE_INVITATION_PENDING`, `WORKSPACE_LOCKED`, `PERMISSION_DENIED`.
- `404`: Workspace not found
- `422`: The pause could not be applied (WORKSPACE_PAUSE_FAILED). There is no request body, so this endpoint has no validation error.
- `429`: Too Many Requests - Rate limit exceeded
