# Get the stored waveform peaks of an audio or video file

`GET /v1/files/{uuid}/waveform`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://contentmaschine.ai/api`
- URL: `https://contentmaschine.ai/api/v1/files/{uuid}/waveform`
- Auth: one of:
  - HTTP bearer
  - OAuth 2 (authorization code, authorization URL `https://contentmaschine.ai/api/oauth/authorize`, token URL `https://contentmaschine.ai/api/oauth/token`)

Peaks a browser computed and stored with PUT. `peaks` is base64 of `buckets` (min, max)
pairs of signed bytes (format `i8mm`, value / 127 gives -1..1). Answers with an ETag and
honours If-None-Match (304). Unknown, foreign, non-media and container-denied files are
the same 404 as a file with no waveform yet.

## Path parameters

- `uuid` string, uuid, required

## Response `200`

The peaks.

- object
  - `success` boolean
  - `data` object
    - `buckets` integer: Number of (min, max) pairs.
    - `format` string: Always "i8mm".
    - `version` integer: Always 1.
    - `peaks` string: Base64 of 2 x buckets signed bytes.
  - `timestamp` string, date-time

## Other responses

- `304`: Unchanged since the ETag in If-None-Match.
- `401`: Missing or invalid API key.
- `403`: The token does not hold files:read.
- `404`: No waveform stored, or unknown file, not yours, not media, OR readable only by a container scope your token lacks.
- `default`: Any other error. Every failure this API emits uses the same envelope; branch on `error.type`, never on `error.message`, and quote `error.correlation_id` to support.
