# Create or update item group (Deprecated)

`PUT /v1/item_groups/{group_id}`

For authenticating with Bearer token, required scopes are: `catalog(w)`.

Create or update an item group.

## Path parameters

- `group_id` string, required

## Query parameters

- `key` string, required — The key of the index to use.
- `section` string — The section of the index to use. Defaults to `Products`.
- `c` string — The ID of the client and version that the request is coming from, such as `cio-js-2.90`.

## Request body

- ItemGroupPutRequestBody
  - `data` object — Object containing additional data, that should be attached to this item group. The maximum size of data object is limited to 5kb. The average size of data objects for all ingested item groups should not exceed 1kb.
  - `name` string — Item group display name.
  - `parent_id` string — Parent item group ID or null for root item groups.

## Response `200`

OK

- ItemGroupPutResponse
  - `data` object — Object containing additional data, that should be attached to this item group. The maximum size of data object is limited to 5kb. The average size of data objects for all ingested item groups should not exceed 1kb.
  - `id` string, required — ID of the item group.
  - `name` string, required — Item group display name.
  - `parent_id` string — Parent item group ID or null for root item groups.
  - `path_list` string[], required — A list of item group IDs in the hierarchy.
  - `path` string, required — Path to a item group IDs in the hierarchy (forward slash-separated).

## Other responses

- `201` — Created
- `400` — Validation Error
- `401` — Credentials are not passed or action is forbidden.
- `403` — The supplied token does not have the required permissions.
- `404` — Not Found
- `429` — Rate limit breached
