# Register a new account

`POST /auth/register`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.companystack.co.uk`
- URL: `https://api.companystack.co.uk/auth/register`
- Auth: none required

Create an account. We email the address a link to confirm it; the account can be signed in to once it is confirmed, and your first API key is made then (create more on the API keys page). The reply is the same whether or not the address already has an account (its owner is emailed instead), so it cannot be used to find out who has one.

## Request body

- object
  - `email` string, email, required
  - `password` string, required: At least 12 characters with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter and a number, and not a password known from data breaches
  - `name` string: Your name: letters, spaces, apostrophes, hyphens, full stops, commas and brackets

## Response `202`

Accepted: check your inbox. The same for a new address and one that already has an account

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid email, name or password (field says which), or a temporary or disposable email address (code disposable_email): sign up with an address you will keep
- `429`: Too many attempts from this IP address; try again in a minute
