# Refresh staging instance from production

`POST /instances/{id}/refresh`

## Request

Refreshes a staging instance with the latest data from its production (parent) instance. Use this to bring a staging environment back in sync before testing a module, an upgrade, or a configuration change against realistic data.

**Key Parameters:**
- `id`: The unique identifier of the **staging** instance to refresh

**NOTE:** The instance must be a staging instance (it must have a `parentId`), and the parent (production) instance must be hosted on the same server as the staging instance. You need view access to the parent instance as well as edit access to the staging instance. All data currently on staging will be replaced by a fresh copy of production, so anything only present on staging is lost.

- `400`: Instance is not a staging instance
- `403`: Insufficient permissions on the staging or parent instance
- `404`: Instance not found
