# Update customer details

`PATCH /customers/{identifier}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://{prefix}.api.sandbox.checkout.com`

  - OAuth 2
    - Client credentials
    - Token URL: `string` scopes: `vault`, `vault:customers`
  - API key in header `Authorization`

Update the details of a customer and link payment instruments to them.

## Path parameters

- `identifier` string, required

## Request body

- UpdateCustomerDetailsRequest: The customer's details
  - `email` string, email: The email address of the customer
  - `name` string: The name of the customer
  - `phone` PhoneNumber: A phone number
    - `country_code` string: The international <a href="https://www.checkout.com/docs/resources/codes/country-codes" target="_blank">country calling code</a>. Required if `source.type` is `tamara`.
    - `number` string: The phone number. Required if `source.type` is `tamara`.
  - `metadata` object: Allows you to store additional information about a customer. You can include a maximum of 20 key-value pairs. Each key and value can be up to 100 characters long. Providing metadata in this request will replace any existing stored for this customer.
  - `default` string: The ID of this customer's default instrument

## Response `204`

Customer updated successfully

## Other responses

- `401`: Unauthorized
- `404`: Customer not found
- `409`: A concurrent update conflict occurred. Call the [Get customer details](/tag/Customers#operation/getCustomerDetails) to retrieve the latest state before retrying.
- `422`: Invalid data was sent
