# Create a bank account

`POST /bank_accounts (COPY)`

Defines a bank account, and associates it with an existing company, contractor, or employee.

One of `employee`, `company`, or `contractor` is required.

## Request body

  - `employee` string: ID of the [employee](ref:the-employee-object) on the account
  - `company` string: ID of the [company](ref:company) on the account
  - `contractor` string: ID of the [contractor](ref:the-contractor-object) on the account
  - `raw_bank_account` object
    - `account_number` string, required: The account’s account number
    - `routing_number` string, required: The account’s routing number
    - `institution_name` string: The name of the bank holding the account
    - `subtype` string, required: The account’s subtype. Values may be `checking` or `savings`
  - `plaid_bank_account` object
    - `plaid_processor_token` string, required: A Check processor token retrieved from the Plaid API
  - `metadata` string, json: Additional loosely structured information to associate with this bank account
