# Start a Google or GitHub sign-in

`GET /v1/auth/oauth/{provider}/start`

## Request

- Auth: none required

A browser navigation, not an API call: redirects to the provider with a state value and a PKCE challenge held in a short-lived HttpOnly cookie. An optional same-origin `next` path is where the person lands afterwards.

## Path parameters

- `provider` string, required

## Other responses

- `302`: Redirect to the provider.
- `404`: That provider is not configured.
