# Regional CO₂ intensity forecasts (GrünstromIndex)

`POST /api/energy-market/co2-intensity`

## Request

Query CO2 intensity for a specific location in Germany from GrünstromIndex.

**'location' is required** — provide a German city name or 5-digit postal code.

**Parameter Details:**
- **location**: German city name or postal code (required, e.g. a city name or 5-digit postal code)
- **timestamp**: Specific timestamp (ISO 8601 or natural language like "now", "tomorrow 14:00")
- **forecast**: Get 36-hour forecast instead of current value (default: false)
- **format**: Output format — "json" (default), "csv", "xlsx"/"xls". CSV includes `# Location`, `# Current CO2 Intensity`, `# Average Today` header comments followed by the hourly forecast rows.

**Use Cases:**
- CO₂-optimized dynamic tariffs
- Smart EV charging (charge when grid is greenest)
- Load shifting for industrial consumers
- Green energy certificates
- Power BI / Excel import with `format=csv`

**Reliability note:** When GrünstromIndex returns nullable standard CO₂ fields, CET uses populated
`co2_g_oekostrom` values as an explicitly marked degraded fallback. If no numeric CO₂ source field
is available, the response is `success:false`/`status:"unavailable"` with warnings instead of a
fabricated all-zero forecast.

**Data Source:** GrünstromIndex provides regional green energy forecasts with 36-hour horizon, factoring in renewable generation, grid mix, and transmission constraints.
