# Download an attached file

`GET /api/v2/projects/{projectId}/files/{fileId}/content`

## Request

Streams the bytes of a referenced file. `fileId` may be a reference object id
or a stored filename.

An authenticated caller receives current working bytes when this exact branch
is already active on a Design Engine. This request never starts a project; if
no live instance is available it falls back to committed branch HEAD.
Anonymous access to a public project always reads committed branch HEAD and
never observes working state. Committed snapshots use the immutable
`assets.primary.sha256` blob, with a legacy files-prefix fallback for older
snapshots.

File bytes.

## Other responses

- `401`: No credential was supplied, or the supplied credential is malformed, expired, or revoked. A credential that is present but unusable is never downgraded to an anonymous request.
- `403`: Authenticated but not authorized. Either the acting user lacks the required resource permission, the key's scope ceiling excludes it, or the endpoint rejects this credential type (`CREDENTIAL_NOT_PERMITTED`).
- `404`: File not found. Error code is `REFERENCED_FILE_NOT_FOUND`.
- `429`: Request rate exceeded, either globally or for this key.
- `500`: Unexpected server error.
