# Request a demo key (all fields required)

`POST /keys/demo`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.cars-data.com/v1`
- URL: `https://api.cars-data.com/v1/keys/demo`
- Auth: none required

Step 1 of 2. Records the request and emails a one-click activation
link. **No key exists yet** and nothing is pending review — the link is
the only gate, and it is yours to click.

Every field is required. They are not a review gate; they are the
lead, and asking for them after issuing would mean nobody fills them
in.

Limits: 5 requests per IP per day, one key per email address. The
email domain is checked for an MX record, because a key emailed to a
domain that cannot receive mail helps nobody.

## Request body

- DemoKeyRequest: Every field is required.
  - `accept_tos` true, required: Must be exactly `true`. See https://cars-data.com/en/api/terms
  - `company` string, required: The organisation the key is for — your own name if you are independent.
  - `email` string, email, required: Where the activation link goes. Disposable domains and domains without an MX record are refused.
  - `name` string, required
  - `role` string, required: Your role there, e.g. developer, CTO, founder.
  - `use_case` string, required: What you intend to build. At least 20 characters.
  - `website` string, required: The site or app the data will be used in, e.g. `https://example.com`.

Recorded; an activation link has been emailed.
