# Release a number

`DELETE /api/v1/numbers/{id}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://api.callnode.io`
- URL: `https://api.callnode.io/api/v1/numbers/{id}`
- Auth: API key in header `X-Api-Key` and API key in header `X-Timestamp` and API key in header `X-Signature`

Releases the number and stops its billing. Released numbers are parked in
a recycle bin tied to your account — re-purchasing the same number later
restores it (with fresh billing) instead of losing it forever.

## Response `200`

Released. `restorable` tells you whether it can be re-purchased later.

  - `phoneNumber` string: Plus sign followed by 7–15 digits.

  - `restorable` boolean

## Other responses

- `401`: Missing, unknown, or badly signed credentials — check the HMAC and the timestamp skew.
- `404`: No such resource on this account.
