# Email a six-digit sign-in code

`POST /auth/codes`

## Request

A new code supersedes any outstanding one. Codes expire after 10 minutes and allow five guesses. The first verified code creates the account. While sign-up runs a waitlist, an address with no account that hasn't been let in yet gets no code: it's added to the waitlist and answered SIGNUP_WAITLISTED, identically whether or not it was already waiting. Show the message as confirmation, not as a failure.

## Other responses

- `403`: Error: SIGNUP_CLOSED, SIGNUP_WAITLISTED.
