# Send an SMS message from the workspace's provisioned phone number

`POST /api/v1/sms/send`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://core.blink.new`
- URL: `https://core.blink.new/api/v1/sms/send`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Send an SMS from the workspace's active Twilio phone number. Billed per segment — 160 chars/segment for ASCII, 70 chars for Unicode. A phone number must be provisioned first (`blink phone buy` or blink.new/settings). Each message is stored for audit purposes.

## Request body

- object
  - `to` string, required: Recipient phone number in E.164 format
  - `message` string, required: Message body.
  - `from` string: Specific sender number (E.164) to use when the workspace owns multiple numbers. Defaults to the workspace's oldest active number.

## Response `200`

SMS sent successfully

  - `message_id` string: Blink-internal SMS ID
  - `twilio_sid` string: Twilio message SID for delivery tracking
  - `status` string: Delivery status from the SMS provider
  - `to` string
  - `from` string
  - `segment_count` integer: Number of SMS segments consumed
  - `credits_charged` number: Credits deducted from the workspace balance

## Other responses

- `400`: Invalid request — missing fields, invalid phone format, or message too long
- `401`: Authentication required or invalid API key
- `402`: No phone number provisioned for this workspace
- `404`: Specified `from` number not found or inactive
- `502`: SMS provider error
- `503`: SMS service not configured
