# Update Solvent

`PATCH /api/v3/solvent/{solvent_id}`

Update a solvate's name or code, or archive/unarchive it via the `archived` field. The solvate structure is immutable and cannot be changed after creation. A new name must be unique (case-insensitive) across the Salt & Solvate library, and a solvate cannot be unarchived while an active entry has the same name or structure.

  - `archiveReason` string: Why it is being archived. Required when `archived` is `true`, and not allowed when unarchiving.
  - `archived` boolean: Set to `true` to archive or `false` to unarchive it. Archiving requires `archiveReason`.
  - `code` string, nullable: Configurable identifier for this solvate. Must be unique (case-insensitive) across the Salt & Solvate library.
  - `name` string: The name of the solvate. Must be unique (case-insensitive) across the Salt & Solvate library.

- Solvent: A Solvent is a compound in which solvent molecules are incorporated into the crystal lattice, used to represent the solvent form of a chemical compound in a tenant's solvent library. Solvents are referenced when creating molecules to describe the final form of a compound. Each solvent has a required SMILES from which the molecular formula is derived.

  - `calculatedMolecularWeight` number, double, nullable: The molecular weight of the solvent.
  - `canonicalSmiles` string: The SMILES representation of the solvent after standardization.
  - `code` string, nullable: Optional company-specific identifier for this solvent (e.g., "MH", "DH"). Unique across both salts and solvents within a tenant.
  - `createdAt` string, datetime
  - `id` string
  - `modifiedAt` string, datetime
  - `molecularFormula` string: The molecular formula (e.g., "H2O").
  - `molfile` string: The molfile representation of the solvent.
  - `name` string
