# Update a feature

`PATCH /features/{feature_id}`

## Request

Update a feature

## Path parameters

- `feature_id` string, required

## Request body

- FeatureUpdate: Inputs for updating a feature
  - `color` string: The color of the annotations generated by the feature. Must be a valid hex string
  - `featureLibraryId` string: The id of the feature library the feature belongs to
  - `featureType` string, nullable: The type of feature, like gene, promoter, etc. Note: This is an arbitrary string, not an enum
  - `name` string: The name of the feature
  - `pattern` string: The pattern used for matching during auto-annotation.

## Response `200`

OK

- Feature: A feature from a feature library
  - `color` string: The color of the annotations generated by the feature. Must be a valid hex string
  - `featureLibraryId` string: The id of the feature library the feature belongs to
  - `featureType` string, nullable: The type of feature, like gene, promoter, etc. Note: This is an arbitrary string, not an enum
  - `name` string: The name of the feature
  - `pattern` string: The pattern used for matching during auto-annotation.
  - `id` string: The id of the feature
  - `matchType` 'nucleotide' | 'protein': The match type of the feature. Used to determine how auto-annotate matches are made.

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad Request
- `404`: Not Found
