# Update a group

`PATCH /api/public/organizations/{orgId}/groups/{id}`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://charts.basedash.com`
- URL: `https://charts.basedash.com/api/public/organizations/{orgId}/groups/{id}`
- Auth: HTTP bearer

Updates an existing group. Renaming a group to a name another group in the organization already uses (compared case-insensitively) returns 409. Requires admin access to the organization.

## Path parameters

- `orgId` string, required: Organization ID
- `id` string, required: Group ID

## Request body

  - `name` string: Name of the group. Unique within the organization, compared case-insensitively.
  - `description` string, nullable: Optional description of the group

    - `memberCount` integer, required: Number of active organization members currently in the group

## Other responses

- `400`: Bad request - Invalid JSON body or validation error
- `401`: Unauthorized - Missing or invalid API key
- `404`: Not found - Group not found or no admin access
- `409`: Conflict - Another group in the organization has the same name (compared case-insensitively)
- `429`: Rate limit exceeded - Too many requests
- `500`: Internal server error
