# FREE — request a free API key by email (no card): 50 calls a day on answer endpoints, commercial use allowed, unmetered worldwide holidays, every brand

`POST /v1/keys/free`

## Request

- Base URL: `https://ausref.dev`
- URL: `https://ausref.dev/v1/keys/free`
- Auth: one of:
  - API key in header `X-PAYMENT`
  - API key in header `X-API-Key`

Sends a single-use verification link to the address. The key is issued when the link is confirmed (POST /v1/keys/free/verify) and shown once. One key per mailbox; disposable domains are refused. The response is the same whether or not the address already has a key.

## Request body

  - `email` string, email, required

## Response `202`

Accepted. If the address can receive a key, a verification link is on its way.

## Other responses

- `400`: Not a deliverable email address
- `422`: Disposable email domain
- `429`: Too many requests from this IP
- `503`: Signup disabled, outbound mail not configured, or today's signup ceiling reached
